Timeform UK SmartPlays: Friday February 15

Mick Channon's Ballypatrick is fancied at Fakenham today.

Fakenham and Lingfield host our trio of SmartPlays this afternoon...

Ballypatrick (13:40) found the frame on three occasions in novice hurdles for Henrietta Knight last term and he has a largely progressive profile over fences this time around, relishing the step up to three miles when just touched off in a handicap at Huntingdon last Thursday. With the prospect of more to come, connections may have found a good opportunity for him to finally get off the mark and though Buck's Bond is worth considering now sent over fences, Ballypartick still makes plenty of appeal.

Henry The Aviator (15:40) overcame greenness to make a successful debut in a maiden over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton last month and in the expectation of plenty of improvement, Mark Johnson's well-bred and expensively-purchased colt can maintain an unblemished record now stepping up to a mile in handicap company. He meets several other progressive three-year-olds here, but an opening mark of 75 may prove to be very lenient and he can take this on his way to better things.

The last time that El Libertador (16:50) got his head in front was in this corresponding race 12 months ago, but he's been running well enough in recent weeks to suggest a return to the winner's enclosure may be imminent. Having found the frame on eight occasions since taking this prize from a 2 lb higher mark in 2012, including on his last two runs (both here over 1m), and with the extra furlong of this event sure to be in his favour, he ticks the right boxes.
