Gornick Zabrze vs Lech Poznan
Sunday 16:00
There's a big game from the top of the Polish Ekstraklasa on Sunday as Lech Poznan take the trip South to take on Gornick Zabreze.
Before Christmas Legia Warsaw looked to be firm favourites to take the title in Poland but since then their form has fallen to pieces and with it so has their lead. There's now up to five teams all in with a shout; the two Warsaw rivals, last years champions Slask and the two that meet on Sunday.
Gornick Zabrze has historically been the most successful side in the Polish top division but the last of their fourteen titles came back in the eighties and their legions of fans have been starved of success for too long.
They currently occupy fourth spot, just a point behind their guests on Sunday and under manager Adam Nawalka they have been making steady progress. They are also looking forward to moving into a marvelous new stadium next season, things are looking up at last but they did suffer a disappointing setback in December when they lost their most exciting young talent. Nineteen year old Arkadiusz Milik, who looks to be the heir to Lewandowski's striker role for the national side had been their most regular scorer but was sold to Leverkusen in December.
Gornick need to find another source of goals, they have only managed two this calendar year although their defence is certainly doing its job having conceded the least in the league.
Last weekend they suffered a disappointing home loss to Jagiellonia and should face a very difficult test on Sunday. They'll have to cope without many regular starters as injuries and suspensions have started to pile up and they're also facing the best travelling team in the division.
The 'Railwaymen' of Lech Poznan have an absolutely astonishing away record, they've won on eight of their nine trips and six of those have come with clean sheets. If they could get anywhere near that sort of form at home they would have the league wrapped up by now. With that potential at 3.185/40 for the league they are worth a look.
Their main goal threat this season has come from Bartosz Slusarski he started his career in Poznan before a pretty unsuccessful spell in England and has now returned home where he has found his feet scoring nine in fifteen appearances so far.
This will probably be the last time Poznan play in the old Ernest Pohl Stadium and expect them to take home the three points as a memento. Despite Gornick's sturdy defence they look to be stuttering and Poznan are a force to be reckoned with on their trails.
Recommended Bet:
Lech Poznan to win @ 2.8415/8
Lech Poznan to win 2-0 @ 1514/1
Fenerbahce vs Bursaspor
Sunday 17:00
There's more Super League action this weekend as fourth placed Bursaspor cross the Marmara Sea to Istanbul to take on 3rd placed Fenerbahce.
After last week's tipping success in the Istanbul derby we'll have another look at Fenerbahce, this time back in front of their own fans at the Sukru Sarakoglu Stadium.
Last weekend was a painful one for Fenerbahce, not only did they suffer a heartbreaking last minute defeat to Besiktas, they also saw Galatasaray win and move seven points above them. It's now imperative that they get all three points this Sunday as the gap may be up to ten with Gala playing at home on Friday night.
Fenerbahce did find some respite on Thursday night in the Europa League when they traveled to the Czech Republic and gained an impressive win over Victoria Plzen, no mean feat considering Plzen knocked out Napoli in the previous round. That result may have restored a bit of confidence and the front three of Kuyt, Sow and Webo are looking increasingly dangerous. Webo's arrival from little neighbours Istanbul BB seems to have freed up space for Sow, they both have twelve goals to their name so far and should be the main threats again on Sunday.
Bursaspor finished fifth last year and are enjoying another decent season founded on a solid defence despite the arrival of Anton Ferdinand. Another Englishmen Scott Carson has been enjoying a good season in goal but their most entertaining players are found in midfield. The Argentinean duo of Pablo Batalla and Fernando Belluschi are ever present and their consistent impressive displays are keeping the 'Green Crocodiles' in the hunt for European places.
Fenerbache won with comfort when these two met in the cup in January and they should repeat the success on Sunday. It won't be an open game and it may take the hosts some time to break down their opponent but expect Fener to have enough to stay in the race.
Recommended Bet:
Fenerbache to win @ 1.84/5
HT/FT Draw/Fenerbahce @ 54/1
