Today's three bets are at Lingfield.

The opening event at Lingfield, due off at 13:30, looks set to develop into a battle between Athletic and Tenbridge. For all that the latter has been given some respite from the handicapper, with her now racing from a 3 lb lower mark than when second at Wolverhampton last week, it is the John Jenkins-trained Athletic that we want to keep on side. The four-year-old took a while to get himself off the mark but impressed when final doing so on his penultimate start, the drop to seven furlongs likely to have been a significant factor as he readily got the better of Greek Islands, tanking along prior to hitting the front and idling once the race was won. He ran well when second at Kempton over a mile last time, hitting the front a furlong out before being reeled in by Divine Rule, but seven furlongs now appears to be his optimum trip and he is taken to gain a second career success.
Division two of the seven furlong handicap takes place half an hour later, with nine runners going to post. Blue Noodles may be advantaged by the run of the race, with there not appearing to be all that much competition for the lead, and Spinning Ridge could well bounce back from a poor effort given that he has dropped to his last winning mark but the one we are interested in is Patavium Prince, who shaped better than the bare result on his most recent start. Although now in the twilight of his career he proved there was still plenty of life in the old legs when landing a competitive handicap over C&D in December and the likelihood is that he would have finished much closer to the principals when finding himself poorly placed, again over C&D, last month. A mark of 60 strikes as being fair, and he can prove that point this afternoon.
Although 10 look set to contest the 15:00 there aren't a great many that you can make a compelling case for, with only Catflap and Artful Lady taking the eye. The former will be suited by this return to six furlongs but looks to be on a stiff enough mark so we are quite happy to side with Artful Lady, who appeals as being slightly overpriced at the present 5.04/1. The four-year-old has improved over the winter, gaining her second win of the all-weather season when edging out My Scat Daddy over C&D on her penultimate start prior to producing a superior performance in defeat when finding only the in-form Red Ramesses too strong earlier this month. Artful Lady is well drawn in stall one to adopt a prominent position, tactics which have been favoured with her of late, and she seems sure to give another good account of herself.
