Seb Sanders will be aboard Testa Rossa at 17:30.
Placepot success for Timeform colleague Keith Melrose at Ayr yesterday has given Matt Gardner plenty of confidence ahead of today's tilt at Wolverhampton, with the evening meeting on a marathon card coming under inspection...
16:00 - A non-runner has reduced this field to seven, leaving us just two places to aim at, and the pair selected to see us through are Drawnfromthepast and Blown It. The first mentioned has returned to the yard of Jamie Osbourne, having won a couple of claiming events for him and Jim Boyle on his last two starts, and he seems sure to go well in his attempt to land the hat-trick here whilst Blown It got back in the groove after several lesser efforts when third in a C&D handicap last month and could find this race being run to suit his hold-up style as he drops in grade.
16:30 - This is a tight handicap, again with just two places to aim at, and we're going to play safe by sticking in three to avoid a fairly early exit. Reaction and Tram Express are closely matched on their form over C&D a week ago but the former is weighted to reverse the placings from that day and is the first name to make the ticket here, with Sherman McCoy, who looks to be on a fair mark, and Sohcahtoa, who makes his Wolverhampton debut, also included.
17:00 - Dorback is in good form at present but he hasn't always been the most consistent and is likely to be carrying plenty of lines here, so is taken on with Little Garcon and Beauty Pageant. The former was progressive when winning twice in 2010 and, although he failed to find the frame in six starts last year, shaped with some promise on his most recent start at Kempton with a view to returning to this trip and the first-time cheekpieces may spark a revival off what strikes as being a decent mark. Beauty Pageant has been overlooked in the market, with her currently trading at 14.013/1, but she deserves to get her head in front having found one too good on each of her last starts, doing nothing wrong on any occasion, and she has since joined a yard in fine fettle, with David Evans saddling three winners from his last four runners.
17:30 - We now commence on a series of three bankers, with the first one being the John Hills-trained Testa Rossa, who looks to have been found a good opportunity having made his debut at Lingfield last month. The three-year-old, who cost 52,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to the smart Foodbroker Fancy, shaped promisingly that day and is almost certainly capable of building upon that, so really ought to be winning this.
18:00 - The curse of the non-runner in an eight runner field strikes again here, but we can be fairly confident that the Charlie Hills-trained Cockney Dancer will make the first two given her positive profile. The four-year-old is two from two on the all-weather with both wins coming over C&D. She looks the type that only does enough in her races, leaving the impression that she had more left in the tank when winning last time, and it is certainly conceivable that she could improve further still.
18:30 - Berlusca is interesting on debut for David O'Meara but isn't really a Placepot type so we will bank on Aragorn Rouge to see us across the line, assuming we have made it this far. The five-year-old was unlucky not to finish closer at this venue last month, having to wait for a gap and being unsuited by the steady pace, and he looks to be a big player in this with cheekpieces in place for the first time and a decent pace a distinct possibility.
