Timeform Radio Tips: Top to Dance his way to glory

Racing takes place at Warwick on Sunday.

David Cleary suggests two bets for Sunday's racing...

Stamina will be the order of the day in the feature events at Warwick and Market Rasen on a low-key Sunday in Britain ('low-key' is almost superfluous there). With the ground likely to be soft at best and with the potential for the races to be run at a true gallop, both the long-distance chase at Warwick and three-mile handicap hurdle at Market Rasen should see stamina at a premium, and both races make some appeal from a punting point of view.

The staying handicap chase at Warwick, due off at 16:00, should be well run, with both Pensnett Bay and Ringa Bay in the line-up, and the former, in form and on a track that can favour front runners that get into a good rhythm jumping, could well go close, but he has his stamina to prove beyond three miles and that may find him out. Trigger The Light seems sure to run well, back in calmer waters after being well held at Haydock last time, and back on a track where he's got a really good record, including when winning this race last year. Trigger The Light makes most appeal of the likely market leaders but he has no secrets from the handicapper and it might be worth taking a chance on a horse half his age in Top Dancer. Top Dancer shaped well, considering the superior opposition he faced, on his chasing debut at Leicester six weeks ago. He appeals as the type to make a better chaser than a hurdler and yet he gets in here off a lower mark than he had in handicap hurdles. Top Dancer is likely to benefit from the increased test of stamina he faces this afternoon and can get off the mark at the second time of asking over fences.

A horse going back from fences to hurdles makes some appeal in the 15:50 at Market Rasen, namely Simonside. It isn't a great surprise that he hasn't made much impact over fences, given he was sent chasing at the age of nine after a long career on the Flat and over hurdles. However, before that, he was in good form over hurdles in the autumn and would be competitive in an open contest here if returning to that level. The step back up to three miles offers some hope that he could be even better than those runs, which saw him strong at the finish of races over half a mile shorter than today's trip on very testing ground.
