Paul Carberry takes the ride on Barney's Honour
We get Gordon's thoughts on whether he thinks Barney's Honour is still well treated under a penalty, and on his other runner at the Co. Down track also...
15:15 Downpatrick - Shattered Dream
I was very disappointed with him at Fairyhouse last week were he finished a well beaten sixth of 13 behind Macca's Lad, and we were expecting him to run a lot better than he did. He came out of the race well and we couldn't find anything wrong with him and he has been in good form since, so we will just have to put it down to an off day for the horse and put a line through that run.
We have decided to put the cheekpieces on for the first time and keep the tongue-tie on, and they might just help him concentrate and bring about some improvement hopefully. He had some good placed form over this distance of 2m2f when finishing third of 14 runners behind the ill-fated Venture Capital at Wexford in December, and the forecast ground wouldn't be of any inconvenience to him. Davy Russell is booked to take the ride, and if he could reproduce some of the form he was showing towards the end of last year I think he will run well.
16:15 Downpatrick - Barney's Honour
We were delighted with how he won last Saturday at Navan, and I'm looking to get another run into him before his new chase mark of 118 comes into effect. He gets in here off a mark of 102, but he has to contend with a 6lbs penalty, however on the face of things he still looks quite well treated.
The only slight worries I would have would be the drying ground, as he likes some give, and the nature of the track. Downpatrick is unique and the undulations can make it quite a test for any horse, and as he's never run here before I'm just hoping he takes to it. In saying that, he came out of the race at Navan very well and we have Paul Carberry booked to take the ride again. He looks the one beat again, and I'd be hopeful he could another big race, once he handles conditions like he did at Navan.
