One of today's Follow The Money selections comes from Newbury
Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Newbury, Kelso and Doncaster...
We start at Newbury in the 14:05 where The Romford Pele has seen steady support going from 8.27/1 in to 6.411/2. Rebecca Curtis' runner has a good record over hurdles, winning two of five starts while finishing second in another two of those starts. He ran a respectable fourth on his handicap debut last time, and is able to run off 5lb less today. He will need to find more today, however further progress looks likely, especially given the step up three miles when there is plenty of stamina in his breeding.
We move to Kelso for the 14:30 where No Planning has had plenty of backing, coming in to 2.526/4 from an earlier price of 3.185/40. The runner from Sue Smith's stable has taken well to chasing, making the frame on all four starts over fences. He was in front last start when blundering two out so would have finished even closer without the error. He returns here after a break, and drops back to the 2m1f distance which all three of his wins have come. With the money down, it looks like punters are expecting him to return to his winning ways again today.
Finally we head to Doncaster for the 16:05 where Captain Kelly has been on the drift, going from 3.07n/a out to 3.55n/a. Paul Nicholls' runner was an expensive recruit from the Irish Pointing field, but has failed to set the racing world alight so far. He was second in his jumping debut in May, but was never sighted on his return at Chepstow in October. He did win last start, but that was on an all-weather bumper race. Although the firmer ground today will no doubt suit, he might be one to avoid at short odds until he's proven he can do the business over the sticks.
