Plenty of greyhound action over the next few days
Darrell Williams marks your card for the next couple of days of greyhound action...
Racing Post Greyhound TV celebrates its new five nights a week schedule (Wednesday to Sunday) with exclusive coverage of the Golden Sprint, which kicks off with the first round heats at Romford on Friday. Darrell Williams pinpoints the best bets and lays and is also across the Thursday night action at Hove and Henlow.
The Golden Sprint, won last year by subsequent Derby hero Blonde Snapper, looks wide-open and even qualifying from some of the first round heats will be far from easy.
But there are few dogs who run Romford better than Ayamzaman (21:06), and despite a few blips to his otherwise excellent record over the 400m trip earlier in the year, Mark Wallis' charge looks back to his best judged on an exceptionally fast win a fortnight ago. With Falkland Tyson sure to be searching for the rails, and the improving Dusseldorf likely to edge the other way, Ayamzaman should enjoy a smooth passage and rates the best bet of the round.
Hipower Rhino has created a good impression in his relatively few starts at the track and might be worth taking a chance with from what appears a favourable trap one draw (20:50) despite the presence of leading sprinters Farloe Barracuda and Lil Risky on his immediate outside. The former created a huge impression at Yarmouth last week but posted only a moderate trial here a month ago and might even be worthy of a small lay, while Lil Risky's moderate Romford strike rate plus the presence of another railer in Shaneboy Ozzy in trap four also makes him one to oppose. Courts Ad Nina, despite only just returning to the card after season, is a viable alternative from trap five.
Droopys Loner's impressive strike over the CD last week on only her second run back from a lengthy absence makes her the obvious play (19:46) against an inconsistent Millstreet Lar, although Sharons Return back in his favoured trap three box will provide a stern test and could be worth saving on.
Glanmire Lad, who failed to make the first two for the first time in his career last week, has a potentially tricky draw in trap five (20:02) outside pacey Rio Minstrel but is still hard to oppose and earns the vote.
Six-timer chasing Borna Monty hasn't just been winning races but usually been turning them into processions, which makes him hard to oppose (20:18) despite the presence of Slick Santiago, who flew round Nottingham last time and had earlier clocked a rapid time in a trial over the CD. Loughteen Blanco looks one to take on from trap one.
The other heat (20:34)looks the hardest to call, but despite his inconsistency at the traps recently Nans Turbo appears the most likely winner having won three of his last six over the trip especially with Cluxtons Free badly drawn in trap four. Droopys Stevie is also struggling to get his head in front and has lost his last five over this trip and rates lay material.
Away from the Golden Sprint, Melodys Ace can confirm his fastest heat winning status by taking the Maiden Stayers Trophy final (21:24), while Head Iton Tom looks one to bet on from his favoured trap one box over the same 575m trip. (22:11).
Apart from the obvious Your A Champ (20:18) who should make it 11 wins in a row in the sprint, Bua Paprika in the maiden (20:34) looks the dot on Hove's Thursday night card. Unlucky not to go close on his debut last week when forced back at the third bend, Jason Heath's dog appears to have been found a weaker looking contest this time and should make amends.
Call Me Millie, a winner at the BAGS Eggstravaganza last week, can claim the other sprint for Dean Childs (20:50),while Droopys Danneel looks one to stay with after her easy win last week and should complete a hat-trick in the 'Ladies' race at 21:56. Blonde Reagan, who ran well in defeat in the Trainers Championship, can return to winning ways over 695m at 22:11.
Oldroad Bluebell has taken well to Henlow and can take advantage of a good draw inside middle favouring Airforce Harlem to claim the stayers race for Richard Joyce (22:03)
