More of a chaser than hurdler on looks, the Charlie Mann-trained Prolinx (14:40 Southwell) has caught the eye on all three starts over fences, finishing third on his handicap debut at Newbury last time despite being set too much to do. The winner, Marie des Anges was undoubtedly leniently treated over fences, but you get the impression that Prolinx could have threatended had he been asked for his effort sooner, running on well in the closing stages and finishing with plenty of running still to give. Fortunately, his mark hasn't suffered for that effort and he should reward his supporters today.

Mizyen (15:00 Wolverhampton) didn't show a great deal in three maidens last summer but it wouldn't register as a surprise were he to improve markedly as he makes his handicap debut returning from a break after a gelding operation. It is also interesting to note that, having raced over six and seven furlongs in maiden company, he has been raised in trip, competing over eight and a half furlongs today, which is a factor that could elicit further improvement. In truth, this does not appear to be the strongest of heats so were Mizyen to find the anticipated improvement he is likely to go extremely close.

Representing the excellent Venetia Williams, Massena would appear to have strong claims of building on a promising effort last time and winning the 16:40 at Southwell. Disappointing on his first couple of starts for the yard last season, there has been a lot more to like about Massena's performances this year, shaping well on his handicap bow at Sandown before producing an improved effort to finish second at Warwick eight days ago. He appears to have been found a good opportunity here and should put up a bold show.
