Will Helium prevail at Catterick today?
Good morning and Happy New Year. Today's Follow the Money comes from Exeter and Catterick...
We start with Exeter where in the 13:30 Ambion Wood has been well supported into 2.0421/20 from a high of 2.447/5. The money has to be considered significant given it's his first run of the season after the yard's well documented problems. He looked hugely promising last season; a natural chaser over hurdles and he improved significantly to take a grade 3 at Sandown at the end of the season, a race won in the past by Albertas Run amongst others. He's the clear form pick amongst his rivals and hopefully he can go on to better things after taking this.
Staying at Exeter and there has been a drift on Gullinbursti who's gone from 2.31n/a out to 2.89/5 for Emma Lavelle in the 14:40. He looks a promising chaser although he perhaps doesn't enjoy soft ground and he has a tough rival to beat in the shape of Hawkes Point who will relish the conditions and ran over an inadequate trip last time at Plumpton which he'll surely come on for significantly. The lack of money for Gullinbursti probably suggests he has another target further down the line, most likely on better ground at one of the Spring festivals.
We go to Catterick for our final bet where there's been a move on Helium in the 13:45. He's been backed from 12.011/1 in to 8.27/1 on this big drop in class. He made a nice reappearance at Sandown last time in what was a useful race and should be fine on the soft ground given two of his three wins have come on soft. The trip looks spot on and he looks like he should run a big race against a moderate field.
