Tuesday's Placepot comes from Southwell
On a relatively low-key day of racing, Tony McFadden attempts to land the Southwell Placepot...
14:20- Proven form on the fibresand is often a decisive factor here, and it is worth including two horses that have prevailed at this venue in the past, likely favourite Luv U Whatever and Napinda. The former showed much-improved form to win on his all-weather debut, seemingly benefitting from a break and the switch to handicap company. He was below his best at Kempton, but can bounce back returned to this surface. Napinda has plenty to find on the bare form but it is significant her two best efforts have come on the fibresand and she is not one to dismiss.
14:50- Excellent Puck holds strong claims based on three polytrack efforts but he is likely to command a large share of the pool and it is worth taking him on with some potential improvers. Representing Hughie Morrison, the once-raced Burgoyne looks particularly interesting having shaped well at Kempton last month. His trainer has a good record with the horses he sends to Southwell and it would be little surprise to see Burgoyne show marked progress from his debut. Winter Music is the other interesting type, hailing from the Andrew Balding yard. He made little impression on his only start last year, but he should find this a significantly easier affair than the strong Ascot maiden he competed in, and he deserves inclusion.
15:20- Our first banker of the day comes in the form of Hannahs Turn, a three-year-old filly that has won on both starts at Southwell. She evidently relishes the surface here and ought to be difficult to beat as she goes in search of a hat-trick of course wins.
15:50- Stand Guard sets a good standard and registers as an automatic inclusion, but considering Jack Dawkins' impressive record at this track, and the fact he enters this contest in good form, it is also worth adding him for a bit of insurance.
16:20- An impressive winner here last time, Miako has a 10 lb rise in the weights to contend with, not to mention tougher opponents, but the style of his victory really was impressive and he should be able to go in again. That was his first start on the fibresand and the way he travelled and scooted clear suggests he may be able to progress further on this surface.
16:50- Favourite Girl often runs well at Southwell and enters this race on the back of a couple of good efforts over hurdles, so should be capable of making the frame. The Michael Appleby yard continues to send out winners and Favourite Girl is the first horse we turn to in this final leg. For a bit of insurance it may be worth adding Follow The Flag as, though he was below his best last time, the step back up in trip should suit and he has produced plenty of respectable efforts of late.
