Paul Nicholls: Trainer of Definity.
Timeform take a look at a decent handicap chase on Thursday...
Definity is a lightly-raced 10-y-o who made promising start over fences in 2010/11, winning maiden at Fontwell and ending season with excellent fifth in listed handicap at Cheltenham. Respected despite absence.
Clouded Thoughts won decent 2m maiden chase at Limerick in May for Jessica Harrington. Down the field on debut for new yard in September, but stable in much better form now, so better showing anticipated.
Fine Parchment got back to form when collared run in after a bold display of jumping from the front at Taunton (23f) late last month, but way he weakened when seemingly in control typical, and not one for maximum faith.
Webberys Dream showed useful form when scoring over C&D last January. Hinted at a return to form when fourth at Ascot (19f) in November, but followed that with a lifeless effort at Chepstow last time.
Andreo Bambaleo quickly matched hurdles form when switched to fences in the summer, winning at Market Rasen. Possibly needed run when well held after a break at Haydock last time, and may do better now.
Moleskin snapped long losing sequence with ready win in second-time blinkers at Kempton a year ago, and good third at Sandown next time. Absent since second at Perth in April, but shouldn't lack for fitness.
Ballyallia Man is a front runner who won at Market Rasen (2m) in April, and has shaped well until stamina stretched over 25f here on last 2 starts. Drop to 21f looks ideal, and sure to make a bold bid.
Only Vintage is a veteran campaigner who is still capable of fairly useful form, but is not easy to catch right these days. Absent since a poor run at Southwell in May, and easy enough to oppose in this line-up.
Simonside got back on the scoreboard over hurdles at Aintree (2m) in October, but lacks substance for chasing, and latest second to Schinken Otto at Sedgefield leaves him with plenty to find.
Nothingbutthetruth is a winning hurdler/chaser who looked set to go close prior to slipping up on home turn at Uttoxeter in July for Tim Pitt. Respectable efforts both starts since, but more needed on debut for new yard.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Definity
2. Ballyallia Man
3. Moleskin
Timeform Verdict: This promises to be well run, and that will suit the returning Definity, who is on a lenient mark if retaining the ability he showed as a novice. Ballyalia Man appeals most of the likely pace-setters, with Moleskin another to bear in mind with conditions to suit.
