Barry Geraghty survived an error at the final flight to score on Oscara Dara
A return to the smaller obstacles worked the trick as Oscara Dara, ridden by Barry Geraghty and trained by Nicky Henderson, was a resounding winner of the Lanzarote Hurdle...
Fourth to stablemate Darlan at Aintree, Oscara Dara went on to take a race at the Punchestown Festival but was beaten on his novice chase debut at Plumpton, not convincing his trainer with his jumping.
He cruised into contention, and although rather jolting Geraghty at the final flight, he was away and three-and-a-half lengths clear of Romeo Americo who finished in second. Buck Magic finished third with Araldur in fourth. Captain Sunshine, who had been held up towards the rear, was making significant ground when he came down at the last.
"We had it in our minds all year that he would go chasing - he had missed a season with a leg problem - and he was in everywhere this week but I schooled him and I wasn't confident enough to run him over fences again," said Henderson.
"We put him over hurdles, which was plan B, but I think we'll have to stick with plan B at least for the time being, and have some fun over hurdles until the end of the season."
