"Your A Champ has proved the backers best friend at Hove since just after Christmas, coming up trumps in the sprint for the last six Thursday evenings. And despite the presence of Lil Risky - whose overall Hove form is some way below his best - there’s no reason why things should change tonight (20:50) other than the odds will be more rewarding"
Thursday evening is not only very close to the weekend for those fortunate enough to enjoy the 9-5 lifestyle, but it also means the start of three nights of live greyhound action on Racing Post greyhound TV. Darrell Williams has a healthy list of best bets for the next two nights.
Your A Champ has proved the backers best friend at Hove since just after Christmas, coming up trumps in the sprint for the last six Thursday evenings. And despite the presence of Lil Risky - whose overall Hove form is some way below his best - there's no reason why things should change tonight (20:50) other than the odds will be more rewarding.
Gemstone Meg has found all the trouble in the world in her last few starts, but Kevin Hutton's bitch has been found a winning opportunity in the Maiden Stayers (21:40) and can put the record straight.
Earlier, Carkei Glen can repay followers who lost their cash at odds-on last week by claiming the Maiden Sprint (20:18) for Mark Wallis, while for those not too bothered about the price kennelmate Bridge Ruth should relish the return to the Sussex track, where she was in good form prior to the Oaks in the 'Ladies' race at 22:11. Swift Signal will probably trade even shorter, but looks hard to oppose in his bid to make it five on the spin over the 695m trip (21:06).
Westmead Shaw has been a standing dish at Henlow over the past few years, but it's his record over the 428m sprint that shines out having won six from six - and from five different boxes - which makes him hard to oppose in the 20:58.
Savana Roberto is a long way from matching that record, but does run the track well and can complete a 550m four-timer from his favoured trap six berth in the 22:03 for Diane Henry.
Layers are directed towards badly drawn Pennys Pong in the sprint (19:54) and the inconsistent Bush Whitney (22:18), who faces a stiff task anyway against surprise Golden Jacket eliminator Romeo Explosion.
At Romford on Friday, Billymatt looks the obvious call in the opening sprint (19:31) having comfortably accounted for his expected two main rivals last week.
Droopys Lorenzo might already have one paw on the forthcoming Springbok if last week's Wimbledon effort is anything to go by, which should make Dean Childs rapidly improving hurdler a good bet to the land the 20:18.
Glory Stream failed to complete his hat-trick from an unfavourable draw last week, but can use his early speed to make all for Ernie Gaskin in the 20:34 over the standard 400m trip. The kennel can complete a double courtesy of Soviet Josie over the same trip in the 21:24. Although perhaps more suited to trap five, a draw outside a middle-favouring rival and a vacant trap, should ensure she enjoys plenty of racing room.
Sunderland gets in on the Open race act as well with all three races providing solid selections. Mill Bullseye undoubtedly rates the best of them with Kelly Macari's sprinter, a useful sort over the 261m back in the summer, taken to follow up his CD win last month in the 19:39.
Elwick Ghost has won his last two starts over the 640m trip and his combination of early pace and stamina makes him the one to play in the 19:54, while Yah Muppet, should welcome the return to the Wearside circuit, where he won well last summer, in the 450m contest at 20:10.
