Have FTM found a winner at Warwick?
Today's Follow the Money movers come from the meetings at Kelso and Warwick...
At Warwick, in the 14:10, a 2 mile 5 furlong Maiden Hurdle, Salmanzar has seen support moving from 5.39/2 into 3.613/5. Alan King's four-year-old gelding had what was considered an easy victory in his debut in a bumper which was followed up by an encouraging first attempt over hurdles. Today's contest appears to be within his capabilities and the market is perhaps reflecting that. The trainers current 20% strike rate should also be factored in.
We move over the border to Kelso for today's negative. In the 14:55, a 2 mile 6 furlong Novices' Hurdle Little Glenshee has been easy to back moving out from 2.75n/a to a current 3.185/40. N W Alexanders' six-year-old mare recorded her first win last time out in a somewhat fortunate manner at Newcastle. Today's contest has some potential tough rivals to beat and with the added factor of being under a penalty the lack of market support would suggest this may not be her day.
Finally back to Warwick, and the 15:10, a 2 mile 5 furlong Handicap Hurdle where Excelsior Academy has moved from 10.09/1 into 6.5n/a. Richard Phillips' six-year-old gelding has yet to trouble the placings in his first three starts but having not run for nine months before his last start that could potentially be excused. The son of Montjeu showed good form in his flat career which should hold him in good stead. He makes his handicap debut today with Richard Johnson on board for the first time which looks a positive jockey booking.
