The X Factor Result: District3 lose out in battle of boybands

District3 have been eliminated

Mike Norman brings us the latest X Factor result as well as the updated market odds...

Boyband District3 have been eliminated from this year's competition after losing out in a sing-off to fellow Group rivals Union J.

The outcome was far from a surprise as the three-piece had been trading as favourites for the chop since the Sixth Elimination market opened; the biggest price they were matched at was just 4.03/1 (Union J were matched at 30.029/1).

And if there was any doubt as to who would be eliminated once the bottom two were announced District3 did themselves no favours at all by performing a dreadful rendition of the Bruno Mars hit Just The Way Your Are.

Groups mentor Louis Walsh refused to send any of his acts home meaning that it was impossible for the outcome to go to deadlock, and when both Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger elected to send home District3 the result was in.

There's a sense that ITV missed a trick here. By going to Walsh first - and him being a certainty to refuse to vote - an outcome was guaranteed. However, if they'd have went to Walsh last he would have been put in an incredibly tough position as Tulisa Contostavlos chose to send home Union J when asked by Dermot O'Leary.

This would have meant that if Walsh then refused to vote he would be sending home Distric3, but to send the outcome to deadlock he would have had to send home Union J. High drama indeed.

Just six acts remain and for the first time since the current series began we have a new favourite in the Winner market.

Jahmene Douglas now heads the market at 2.68/5 (matched at a high of 10.5n/a) just ahead of long-time favourite Ella Henderson at 2.727/4. James Arthur remains a solid third favourite at 6.05/1 and then we find the three rags - Christopher Maloney (21.020/1), Union J (27.026/1) and Rylan Clark (130.0129/1).

This week's Seventh Elimination market is yet to materialise so be sure to check back these pages during the week where we'll have some top advice from Eliot Pollak and Jack Houghton. For the record, I believe Rylan and Chris will fight out this week's elimination and I will look to back both at 3.02/1 or better.
