"Droopys Vito faced a baptism of fire on his return last week up against Farloe Ironman and Bridge Ruth, running a highly respective race to finish less than four lengths behind the winner. With that race under his belt, he rates the best bet of the night, especially if trapping in the manner he did last time"
Racing Post Greyhound TV returns for another three nights of live action tonight with plenty of Open race action to get stuck into from Hove and Henlow, before Romford's usual Open race jamboree tomorrow evening. Darrell Williams picks out the best bets from all three cards.
The dog to immediately catch the eye on the Hove card is Droopys Vito(20:50), who faced a baptism of fire on his return from a three month layoff last week up against Farloe Ironman and Bridge Ruth, running a highly respective race to finish less than four lengths behind the winner. With that race under his belt, he rates the best bet of the night, especially if trapping in the manner he did last time.
Islas Scolari looked set to 'take' Lemon Pluto off the final bend at Monmore on TV Trophy final night, but as we know now after another win for John Sharp's dog at Belle Vue the other night, to get within two lengths of him is by no means a bad run. With that in mind, Seamus Cahill's youngster looks a strong bet to win the puppy race (21:06), where a lay of frustrating Teejays Blackhawk can pay the stake money.
You Mind Me, nowadays with Dean Childs, appears right back to his best and is hard to resist in the 285m sprint (21:24), especially given his draw inside five seeded runners and is another 'must bet'.
Fernhill Jess had to give second best to Ayamzaman - her rival for the 'winning most' greyhound of the year - at Romford last weekend, but should have few problems bouncing back to winning ways in the sprint at Henlow (19:25) - a track where she has won six of her seven races over the CD.
Peter Bailey's Wilson comfortably justified short odds in the Puppy contest last week and looks ripe for a repeat in the same class (19:54); his cause aided by the likely inwards movement of neighbour Moses Star.
Unlikely Ash's consistent early speed makes him worthy of a second glance over 550m at 22:03, while Moaning Penny, despite a couple of recent short priced defeats, nevertheless rates one to back in the 692m contest at 22:18.
The Standard race at 21:15 could hardly be more competitive, and despite his prolific winning record, layers are directed towards Westmead Shaw, who is likely to prove susceptible to a stronger finisher.
Romford's card on Friday looks potentially punter friendly with a host of 'old favourites' in action.
The feature Bitches final at 21:24 looks a hard call, but by virtue of her draw as the lone seeded runner Blue Glenard, who has become something of a 'win machine' at the Essex track of late, looks the one to beat for David Mullins, with her early speed likely to allow her to get to the front early on.
Rockview Sail, recently back on the card after a break, returns to his favourite discipline over the 575m trip (21:40) - where he has won six of his eight starts - and given his ability to run close to 3500 for the trip at his best, looks hard to oppose.
Puppy Cup winner Glanmire Lad is arguably at his best when drawn in the middle, but is still the one to beat in the 400m contest (22:11), where Oscars Goodbye's (drawn trap four) tendency for the rails, should allow him ample racing room.
Golden Sprint third Slick Sian is another prolific winner at the track (eight from thirteen over 400m) and can bounce back to winning ways in the Bitches race at 21:56.
Elsewhere, Billymatt's consistency makes him a solid play in the sprint at 20:34 while improving Robs Rolex can win the Maiden at 20:50.
