Dan's two best bets come from Uttoxeter
Timeform's Dan Barber heads to Uttoxeter to provide you with his two best bets...
If Cheltenham's imminent Showcase Meeting wasn't enough of an indication that the winter game is cranking up a notch, then conditions at Uttoxeter (or should that be Glue-ttoxeter?) on Thursday afternoon provide a wake-up call to even the most staunch "Flattie".
And with such testing ground come punting opportunities; the leftovers from summer jumping face a major culture shock, while stable form can be critical in assessing which of the returners will be cherry-ripe.
It's the bog-like going that rankles as the possible question mark over Adios Alonso, but his penultimate effort on soft offers more than a crumb of comfort on that score and his run since in a novice at this track, when getting right in the mix against higher-rated rivals behind yesterday's Wetherby winner Dursey Sound, provides a compellingly strong form case. With trainer switcher Dirleton by no means missed in the betting, Adios Alonso should be backed win only.
There are no ground worries at all for the second bet. Lukeys Luck relishes the mud, something his main rival Swift Arrow has to prove in spades, while the selection did enough on his recent chasing bow to suggest he's going to be at least as good over fences as hurdles. If that's indeed the case, then odds bigger than 2.56/4 are worth taking in a race that could prove very weak.
Recommended Bets:
Back Adios Alonso @ 7.06/1 in the 16:10 at Uttoxeter
Back Lukeys Luck @ 2.56/4 in the 16:40 at Uttoxeter
