Home And Away: England can win on Wednesday

Roy's no wally with a brolly

England were rained off in Poland last night but that won't diminish their appetite for a win, says Jonno Turner as he backs Roy Hodgson's men for victory.

We're off to Warsaw for our first pick of the day - as England play Poland in this rearranged fixture, following a farcical postponement last night.

Viewers were treated to two hours of Adrian Chiles' face as the referee dilly-dallied over whether the game was going to go ahead on Tuesday - and nevermind the rain, Chiles' expression suggests that the wind had changed, too.

Roy Hodgson will be desperate for his side to maintain their focus in this encounter, and a win against the Poles would do wonders for the Three Lions qualification campaign - with three points smoothing the path to Brazil significantly.

The England boss is unbeaten and, with 11 goals scored and just one conceded, in their last three games, the visitors have enough quality to protect that run here. They're unbeaten in their last 11 and have three wins from the last four.

Poland were full of expectation going into the European Championships - and in players like Lewandowski they certainly have the quality to hurt some sides - but their performances in the tournament were underwhelming, and they go into this game having failed to win in five of their last seven.

And just two wins from their last four on their own patch suggests that Waldemar Fornalik's side have been shaky in front of their own fans recently. The pressure is on them to secure a positive result, in order to keep within touching distance of Montenegro in second place.

England have not lost to Poland in 16 meetings. If Hodgson goes with the same team that he named in advance of the postponement yesterday, I think that we have enough to nick another win here. At 2.06, they're good value.

Over to Brazil now, as Serie A leaders Fluminense welcome third-placed Gremio to the Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange, looking to extend their excellent form they've shown in recent weeks.

Five consecutive wins has seen the hosts cement their place at the summit of the division, and boss Abel Braga will be delighted with the manner in which his side is dominating their opponents at the moment.

Three clean sheets from their last four shows just how well drilled the home side are in the art of the defence, and nine goals scored down the other end indicates that Braga has the attacking quality available to punish opponents.

The hosts have only won the championship three times before - but look set to secure their fourth sooner rather than later if they can continue these impressive performances.

Visitors Gremio will be content with their third placed position as they go into this tie, and their results of late have been decent - but their away form leaves a lot to be desired.

The away side have won just one of their last four away from Olimpico Monumental, and boss Wanderlei Luxemburgo will be desperate for his charges to arrest that slump on the road.

But a trip to the formidable Fluminense side will be difficult for the Tricolor, and I can't see their luck changing in this one.
